# Warning: Scammers Impersonating ASIC Through Look-Alike Domains

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has been alerted to a series of scams where perpetrators are using look-alike domains to impersonate ASIC. These fraudulent emails target Registry customers, asking for fee payments and personal information under the guise of business or company name renewals.

Typically, these scam emails contain links that direct recipients to provide ASIC usernames and passwords. In some cases, these links can also lead to malware infections on the recipient’s computer. To aid in identifying scam emails, be on the lookout for the following red flags:

– Requests for payment over the phone.
– Requests for payment in order to receive a refund.
– Direct requests for credit card or bank details.
– Fees differing from those listed on the official ASIC website.
– Emails arriving outside the usual notification timeframes of ASIC, which is typically 30 days before the renewal date.

For verification, authentic ASIC notifications will always come from the email address ASIC.Transaction.No-reply@asic.gov.au.

If you suspect that an email you have received is a scam, please forward it for review. Should you fall victim to such a scam, it is vital that you refrain from sending any more money, immediately alert your bank or financial institution, and notify ASIC.

By staying vigilant and informed, we can work together to protect personal and financial information from scammers. Stay safe online!

You can safely renew your business name with Registration Pty Ltd, an ASIC Registered Agent at their website Reg.com.au
